The love potion is created by Donizetti in the incredible record time of two weeks: The result is one of the most heartwarming and comical love stories of the entire opera.

The country people she submits a touching version of the story of Tristan and Isolde, but she finds plenty of funny: Tristan, Isolde unloved receive a miracle man a love potion, is overcome by the magic of Isolde's heart. Adina is glad that there is not this kind potions. Nemorino, who - although he will not listen - love dearly, has been listening attentively. Sergeant Belcore one moves and ending with his soldiers quarters. Adina against it are themselves gallantly, but calls for their equal love. The capricious Adina, however, can not win so easily. Nemorino is able to assert once again how much he loves Adina. However, they reject it,, they would remain free and unbound. As Dulcamara arrives with some fanfare, claiming to be widely celebrated quack doctor and extols his remedy for every conceivable disease. The country people can be cajoled. Finally, Nemorino asks the quack if he also leads a love potion with it. Dulcamara immediately sees through the situation and sold the grateful Nemorino at the ready cash all the coveted elixir. They act only after 24 hours as a precaution Dulcamara says he has turned on the unsuspecting Nemorino nothing but a bottle of Bordeaux wine. Immediately Nemorino drinks it, and his mood improved noticeably. He pretends to be indifferent to Adina. Now, they may recruit him. This sudden reversal of meaning is not quite Adina again. She wants to find out if Nemorinos feelings are actually cold for them, and said abruptly, to marry Belcore, but today, as the sergeant had to move tomorrow morning. Nemorino, the time being - building on his elixir - was confident of victory, is now completely befuddled. He had not imagined the impact of the love potion. But it wirdn ready for the wedding. Dulcamara Adina plays with an improvised Venetian love scene. The notary will appear with the marriage contract, but Adina will sign later. Nemorino wants of Dulcamara, a second bottle of the miracle elixir.

This could already do if Nemorino could pay. But he has not a penny more. In desperation, he can enlist as a soldier of Belcore and procured for the remaining hand in the second bottle money immediately.
The supposed love potion has unexpectedly fast: a whole bunch girl caresses Nemorino. This is not surprising him particularly, he has been awarded his elixir strong. However, he suspects the true background of the wonderful affection not: Gianetta the secret until then news has spread that very Nemorinos begüteter uncle had died and had used it as sole heir. Nemorino finds the girls very pleasant company. Adina he ignores what arouses their jealousy. From Dulcamara she finds out why Nemorino has enlisted. The quack is now offering her the love potion. But she refuses to do a better means to Nemorino, she is so fond of but to win: their eyes. Nemorino believes he has seen in Adina's eye a secret tear. Does she love him does it? After his beautiful romance Adina gives him self-assurance: She confesses her love, he goes back the Anwerbedekret, and has paid back the earnest money Belcore and Nemorino ransomed. Belcore finds his bride in the arms of another. Although he is disappointed, but he puts a good face for the game, and for soldiers like him there would be enough girls. History

The structure of the opera house was planned by the Viennese architect August Sicard von Sicardsburg, while the inside was designed by interior decorator Eduard van der Nüll. It was also impacted by other major artists such as Moritz von Schwind, who painted the frescoes in the foyer, and the famous "Zauberflöten" (“Magic Flute”) series of frescoes on the veranda. Neither of the architects survived to see the opening of ‘their’ opera house: the sensitive van der Nüll committed suicide, and his friend Sicardsburg died of a stroke soon afterwards.

On May 25, 1869, the opera house solemnly opened with Mozart's Don Giovanni in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth.
The popularity of the building grew under the artistic influence of the first directors: Franz von Dingelstedt, Johann Herbeck, Franz Jauner, and Wilhelm Jahn. The Vienna opera experienced its first high point under the direction of Gustav Mahler. He completely transformed the outdated performance system, increased the precision and timing of the performances, and also utilized the experience of other noteworthy artists, such as Alfred Roller, for the formation of new stage aesthetics.

The years 1938 to 1945 were a dark chapter in the history of the opera house. Under the Nazis, many members of the house were driven out, pursued, and killed, and many works were not allowed to be played.

On March 12, 1945, the opera house was devastated during a bombing, but on May 1, 1945, the “State Opera in the Volksoper” opened with a performance of Mozart's THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO. On October 6, 1945, the hastily restored “Theaters an der Wien” reopened with Beethoven's FIDELIO. For the next ten years the Vienna State Opera operated in two venues while the true headquarters was being rebuilt at a great expense.

The Secretary of State for Public Works, Julius Raab, announced on May 24, 1945, that reconstruction of the Vienna State Opera would begin immediately. Only the main facade, the grand staircase, and the Schwind Foyer had been spared from the bombs. On November 5, 1955, the Vienna State Opera reopened with a new auditorium and modernized technology. Under the direction of Karl Böhm, Beethoven’s FIDELIO was brilliantly performed, and the opening ceremonies were broadcast by Austrian television. The whole world understood that life was beginning again for this country that had just regained its independence.

Today, the Vienna State Opera is considered one of the most important opera houses in the world; in particular, it is the house with the largest repertoire. It has been under the direction of Dominique Meyer since September 1, 2010.
