The Mozart Ensemble Quartet

Our professional Vienna Mozart Ensemble performs chamber music and popular classical pieces by the most famous of Austrian composers. Very experienced and well balanced, the string quartet carries on the old and revered Viennese musical tradition. The baroque art and Mannerism architecture of the ground floor hall enchants the eye, while its form creates wonderful acoustics. High standard music, the original atmosphere of the Sala Terrena and the historic costumes worn by the musicians combine into a luxurious classical music experience. Turn your night on the town into a journey back to Mozart`s time.

The "Concerts in the Mozart house" take place in "Sala Terrena" the oldest concert hall in Vienna (18th century) where Mozart used to work and play for Bishop Hyeronimus Graf Colloredo in 1781.

Sala Terrena

The Sala Terrena (from Ital.: ground floor hall) as part of the

convent of the Deutscher Ritterorden(German or Teutonic Order) is located in the historic center of Vienna, next to the St.Stephen`s Cathedral and the Hofburg.

The hall was built in the second half of the18th century in Venetian Mannerism style. Its beautifully designed frescos make for an excellent ambience for enjoying high standard music.

Experience baroque art and lifestyle with all your senses.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart`s performance at the Sala Terrena

By orders of bishop Colloredo of Salzburg, one of the most important sponsors of the Mozart family, Wolfgang went to live in Vienna. In 1781 he stayed in the quarters of the convent assigned to him. Amadeus performed several concerts in this magnificent, and one of the oldest concert halls in Vienna. You can feel Mozart`s spirit at the Sala Terrena.

Come and enjoy one of the most beautiful works of classical music of Vienna: it will be just like in Mozart's time.

We offer you concerts with a very high artistic performance in the heart of the inner-city - next to St. Stephen´s cathedral, in the incomparable pleasant atmosphere of the "Sala Terrena" in The German Order House.

Our musicians are internationally known and can be found among the best of Vienna.

Works of Mozart, Haydn, Schubert , Dvorak, Mendhelsohn and Beethoven will be in this context an unforgettable event during your Vienna visit.

The "Concerts in the Mozart house" take place in the oldest concert hall in Vienna where Mozart used to work and play for Bishop Colloredo in 1781. Mozart lived in this house in the year 1781 from 16. march to 2 may.
The Sala Terrena with its beautiful vault, is situated on the ground floor next to the church and the sacristy. It was designed and painted in the second half of the eighteenth century in late Renaissance Venetian style in the reign of the Land Commander Carl Borromäus Count Colloredo Waldsee (Land Cammander from 1764 - 1786). In the course of the renovation of this hall, it became evident that this is the oldest part of the building. Fragments of gothic frescos were fond and this seems to confirm the tradition that even before the Holy Cross had existed there.

Today the Sala Terrena is used for musical performances; by the Order of the Teutonic Knights , and for other purposes of representation.
