New Year's Eve Gala

Waltz into the New Year!

Enjoy an unforgettable New Year's Eve in the elegant atmosphere of the Festsaal of Vienna's Town Hall with an international gala buffet and an entertaining musical programme featuring waltz music played by a classical ballroom orchestra and a live band for those who want to get out on the dance floor.

Dancers and vocal soloists from renowned Austrian opera houses present a classical “Viennese” midnight show. Another gala highlight is the official opening of the ball by the young debutants of a Viennese dance school under the direction of Yvonne Rueff.

At midnight you can enjoy the magnificent display of New Year's fireworks from the grand balcony. Bid farewell to the old year dancing to the strains of the Blue Danube Waltz and see in the New Year in style with a glass of sparkling wine. The hot rhythms of the live band will entertain you until the early hours of the morning

Since its completion in 1883, Vienna's Rathaus, or City Hall, has been the headquarters of the city and provincial government. Architect Friedrich Schmidt designed the basement vault as a place for "food and drink".

In 1899, Rathauskeller was inaugurated by then Mayor of Vienna Dr. Karl Lueger with a toast to "His Imperial and Royal Apostolic Majesty, Emperor Franz Josef I", and to this day it is known as the home of "good taste".

We invite you to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Wiener Rathauskeller and experience typically Viennese flair.Indulge in extraordinary culinary delights and enjoy an exquisite New Year’s Eve dinner.

Vienna City Hall

Together with the Burg Theater, the Parliament and the University, the monumental City Hall of Vienna makes up one the most beautiful architectural ensembles on the Ring.

The Emperor Franz Josef laid the cornerstone himself on September 12th 1883.
Friedrich von Schmidt, designed the building that even from afar, as he said in his own words, “must speak of the traditional style of each era and meld with the blossoming galleries of the German Bourgeoisie”.

The predominant gothic style of the City Hall demonstrates, to a great extent, the obvious power and influence of the city’s bourgeoisie. The dominant focal point is definitely set on the height of the City Hall tower, followed by the powerful and richly endowed and ornamented arcades, with the entire width of the central galleries extending two floors upwards.
