Bugge Wesseltoft Special Trio feat. Arild Andersen & Gard Nilssen (N)
The "Bugge Wesseltoft Special Trio" with Arild Andersen and Gard Nilssen presents the repertoire from Bugge Wesseltoft's new album in a classical piano trio line-up.
Bugge Wesseltoft's new album is a continuation of the solo record series he began in 2007. Inspired by a melancholic downtempo vibe, these previous solo albums have always contained some meaningful messages or reflected themes that move the world. These albums have also featured Joshua Redman and Mari Bone, among others. The 5th part of this solo album series was released in March 2025. Numerous illustrious guests have contributed to this wonderful collaborative album: Up-and-coming artist Øyunn on drums and Jens Mikkel Madsen on bass form a modern, free rhythm section that supports Bugge's melodies. The album also features vocals and lyrics by Rohey, with Martin Myhre Olsen on saxophone and Elias Tafjord on drums. Tabla player Sanskriti Shrestha complements the melancholic playing of Bugge Wesseltoft's grand piano with her Indian percussive patterns. Oddrun Lilja on guitar is another outstanding Jazzland Recs artist who discovered Bugge and has worked with her for many years. On this evening, the legendary Arild Andersen on double bass meets Gard Nilssen on drums, both accompanying Bugge Wesseltoft and making this evening unforgettable. (Press release)
