Katarina Kochetova presents Overdubs in Jazz (UA/RS/USA/A)

Winner of the 2024 Joe Zawinul Prize, pianist and composer Katarina Kochetova presents Overdubs in Jazz – Jazz Beyond Borders: The Overdub Sessions, a new project bridging the creative energy of New York and Vienna’s jazz scenes. The upcoming album, Patience, features a suite of original modern jazz compositions designed for remote collaboration inviting internationally acclaimed musicians to overdub their parts alongside a core trio based in Vienna and New York – with Katarina on piano, Ben Tiberio on double bass and Valentin Duit on drums.

Katarina Kochetova (UA/RS) is a pianist, vocalist, composer, and arranger, recognized as one of the rising voices in the European jazz scene. A graduate of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna, she spent part of her studies at Stockholm’s Royal College of Music, where she became an active part of Sweden’s jazz community. Kochetova has performed with renowned artists including Seamus Blake, Ari Hoenig, Jure Pukl, Alex Hitchcock, Joe Sanders, Felix Rossy, Håkan Broström, and Vladimir Kostadinovic. Her 2023 debut album Beyond Motion, was released in June 2024 and named one of the Top 100 Jazz Albums of the Year by JAZZIT Magazine. She is currently based in Vienna, where she is pursuing her Master’s degree and developing her latest project, Overdubs in Jazz.

Ben Tiberio is a New York City-based bassist and composer whose expressive style and deep musicality have made him a key figure in the city’s jazz scene. He has toured and performed with artists such as Joel Ross, María Grand, Veronica Swift, and Immanuel Wilkins, and collaborated with acclaimed musicians including Ari Hoenig, Shai Maestro, Ben Wendel, and Aaron Goldberg. Tiberio has also shared the stage with jazz luminaries like Kenny Barron, Herlin Riley, and Gretchen Parlato. His 2021 debut album Rare Peace showcased his voice as a composer and bandleader. He is currently a steady member of the Ari Hoenig Trio.

Valentin Duit is a Vienna-based drummer and composer known for his distinctive sound and genre-spanning projects. He is a member of several forward-thinking ensembles, including Dsilton, Robert Unterköfler Quintett, Coastline Paradox, Duit & Gadermaier, and Gnigler/Duit. In 2018, he released Mashevene, a solo drum set album on Freifeld Tonträger, followed by his 2019 electronic EP Ese-Udu on Rote Welt Records. With a style that merges acoustic experimentation and electronic textures, Duit is an inventive voice in contemporary jazz and beyond.

PORGY and BESS Jazzclub

Porgy & Bess (actually, Jazz and Music Club Porgy & Bess ) is a jazz club in the Riemergasse 11 in the 1st district of Vienna. The club , founded in 1993 is considered " the most important jazz organizer and trendy meeting point " of the Austrian capital .
