Nina Reiter & MetaLogue 'The Music of Mani Planzer' (A/CH)

The newly formed 10-piece ensemble "MetaLogue", led by award-winning Austrian singer Nina Reiter, is dedicated to the music of Lucerne composer Mani Planzer, who passed away in the 1990s. Reiter first encountered Planzer's music in 2014 in her adopted Swiss hometown of Lucerne, and in 2024 released the album evolving in honor of his 85th birthday. The singer and composer, born in Graz in 1991, carefully assembled her top-class large ensemble from selected Austrian, German, and Swiss musicians and arranged Planzer's compositions specifically for this unique line-up.

Planzer's diverse sonic universe – ranging from big band jazz to free improvisation and classical counterpoint – is creatively interpreted by Nina Reiter through her extraordinary line-up: a five-piece horn section, harp, electric guitar, electric bass, drums, and her versatile voice.

The ensemble name MetaLogue refers to Planzer's love of wordplay and symbolizes the fusion of contrasting elements within this project: on the one hand, the outstanding young musicians who reinterpret Planzer’s music in a contemporary light and invite audiences into a musical dialogue that transcends genres, questions conventions, and unites what may seem separate; on the other, Reiter’s own lyrics, which reflect Planzer’s pioneering spirit in blending jazz and poetry, and add a new meta-level of language to what were once purely instrumental works.
