Svaneborg Kardyb are Nikolaj Svaneborg – Wurlitzer, Juno, piano, and Jonas Kardyb – drums, percussion, a multi-award-winning duo from Denmark who won two "Grammys" at the 2019 Danish Music Awards Jazz: New Artist of the Year and Composer of the Year.
Their music, rooted in Danish folk and Scandinavian jazz influences — including Nils Frahm, Esbjörn Svensson, and Jan Johansson’s groundbreaking recording Jazz På Svenska — is an exquisite and joyful blend of beautiful melodies, gentle minimalism, catchy grooves, subtle electronica vibes, Nordic atmospheres, and organic interplay, all driven by the sheer joy of playing together.
Superkilen, their upcoming album, is named after a public park in the ethnically diverse Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. This former wasteland was transformed in the early 2010s by the art collective Superflex to bring together immigrants and locals in a spirit of tolerance and unity. The title symbolically reflects the group’s music, which creates space and serenity with imagination — a tonic for the tense and overstimulated life of 2020. Just as the urban project transformed the neighborhood, Svaneborg Kardyb channeled this positive energy to inspire change in their own music.
