Saxophonist Yvonne Moriel has just been awarded the Austrian Jazz Price as Best Newcomer, and also her sweetlife quartet is making heads turn with it’s mix of jazz with dub and electronics. It has also been selected by Austrian Music Export as New Austrian Sound of Music - Act for 2025/26. The quartet will present their upcoming Debut-Album.
The music of sweetlife blends various influences – jazz is combined with dub effects and electronics, free-jazz practices meet complex rhythmic patterns. The classic, sophisticated Jazz-Quintet with saxophone, trumpet and rhythm section is newly interpreted in a fresh, young version.
Moriel is stylistically versatile, trained in jazz and classical music, and highly active in the field of contemporary/experimental music. With the goal of developing a distinctive and modern sound, she began working on the live project sweetlife in 2022, which now brings together four of the most promising artists of Austria’s young jazz generation. Constant work is done to explore sound expansion and push the boundaries of traditional instrumentation and composition concepts, drawing inspiration from the innovative spirit of jazz and the experimental, open-minded jazz scene of today.
