MNOZIL BRASS
Strau$$ – A Little Dance Between the Chairs
That the waltz-drenched “Duidu, Duidu” and its relaxed counterpart “Dudidubidu” are actually only a stone’s throw apart – not much more than “a warm embracing dance away” from each other – has long been clear to the masters of Mnozil Brass. For more than thirty years, the seven virtuosos have effortlessly navigated with their gleaming brass instruments between Johann Strauss and Frank Sinatra, between Shostakovich and Prince, or passionately from Schubert over to their kindred spirits in Queen. The solemn grandeur of one side matters to them as little as the supposed banality of the other.
But Strauss – whom Brahms, Wagner, and Verdi, as well as craftsmen, girls from the suburbs, and even Gershwin, fervently admired – was the original father of nonchalant dabbling between musical worlds. Strauss was the first to produce hits by the dozen, he employed an arranger to work faster, and he understood that together with his brothers, he could reproduce his sound worldwide. He was the first to blur the line between “high” and “low” art and became a mass phenomenon as the Waltz King – never have the cash registers rung sweeter.
In Strau$$, Mnozil Brass now reveal everything about Strauss. Even the very last detail. In the end, nothing remains but the bare truth.
