Synopsis/Details

In the bustling Viennese jazz scene, where innovation and tradition dance hand in hand, emerges the extraordinary composer/woodwindist of Nikolaus Holler. After captivating audiences with his contributions to Christian Muthspiel's Orjazztra Vienna and the eclectic collective, Little Rosies Kindergarten, Holler takes center stage once again, this time leading his own ensemble, Niklouds 4tet.

With a deep-rooted passion for musical exploration, Holler delved into the realm of experimental lo-fi hip-hop during the pandemic, amassing an astounding 10 million streams. However, his artistic journey led him back to his musical origins, craving the authenticity of an "analog" band that embraces the rich tapestry of handcrafted, acoustic, and irresistibly smooth modern jazz.

Formed in the summer of 2022, Niklouds 4tet brings together a constellation of exceptional talents from the vibrant Austrian jazz landscape. Pianist Simon Raab, renowned for his virtuosic touch and imaginative improvisations, joins forces with the versatile bassist Tobias Vedovelli, whose rhythmic foundation adds depth and groove to the ensemble's sound. Completing this stellar lineup is the dynamic drummer Matheus Jardim, whose impeccable sense of timing and nuanced percussive textures elevate every musical moment.

At the heart of Niklouds 4tet's musical tapestry lies the captivating and expressive alto saxophone voice of Nikolaus Holler. With a warmth that resonates deep within the listener's soul, Holler's multifaceted playing style weaves intricate melodies and soulful improvisations, effortlessly captivating audiences. In the composition "Mahsa Amini," Holler's evocative saxophone serves as a vessel for contemplation, reflecting upon pressing contemporary issues beyond the realm of music.
