Single Bells – If Only Papa Could See This…
A production by JTH Jubel Trubel Heiterkeit GmbH (Julia Sobieszek & Thomas Tröbinger)
The cult Christmas film Single Bells comes to the stage!
On the day before the Christmas vacation in Mauritius, Kati decides: “I want to get married… and: I want a child!” Her boyfriend isn’t on board, which annoys her, because “that can’t be a problem.” But he sticks to his decision. Mauritius is canceled, and Kati spontaneously goes to her sister Luiserl’s to spend Christmas in the countryside with her family. But the longed-for peace and quiet is nowhere to be found…
“Where is it then?” – Grandma can’t find the marjoram but carries on with Christmas preparations alone. “If only Papa could see this…” she dreams, assuring everyone: “I’m not complaining, I’ve never complained!” Luiserl escapes from Grandma’s “big, fat goose” into alcohol, and Lilibet indulges in “two tiny eggnogs.” Hansi, the “man of the house,” asks once again: “Are you going to decorate the stupid tree or not?” Torn between wife, mother, and mother-in-law, he finally concludes: “One humiliation follows another.” Sissy panics: “Lilibet, the rat is gone!” and Gregor demands: “Even carp have a right to live!” In the end, the Christmas tree is on fire, and the rat is sitting in the nativity scene. Just a normal family Christmas madness, right? Songs include: “Don’t fool around, here comes the Christ Child!”
